It is now official that Brazilian play maker Ronaldinho has moved to AC Milan. The move is unsurprising due to the player’s recent troubles at FC Barcelona, where he has been criticized of having a bad attitude and lifestyle by Josep Guardiola.

Over five thousand fans turned up at the San Siro to see Ronaldinho in the AC Milan kit, and the Brazilian has stated that he will do well at the club. The exact fee that AC Milan paid to Barcelona is unsure, although it is believed to be around fifteen million pounds, even though English club Manchester City offered over ten million more, as well as promising to make the player the highest paid in the world. Ronaldinho said that although it was a ‘beautiful period’ with Barcelona, he already feels at home with the Italian club, and that he will try to bring happiness to the Milan supporters. The Brazilian added that he will try and reach new personal achievements.

Ronaldinho has said that he can’t wait to play for AC Milan, and in particular linking up with Brazilian team mate Kaka. He said that Kaka is one of the best players in the World, as well as a good friend, and that they play well together.

Ronaldo de Assís Moreira, or Ronaldinho as he is better known, is a twenty eight year old Brazilian footballer. Ronaldinho specializes in attacking midfield positions due to his incredible skill and shooting abilities. The remarkable player has won numerous individual awards, including two FIFA World Players of the Year awards, two World Soccer Player of the Year awards and over twenty other top football awards.

RonaldinhoRonaldinho started his career at Brazilian club Grêmos, where he spent four seasons, one of which was at youth level. His performances at the club earned him attention from many clubs, with Paris Saint-German signing Ronaldinho in 2001. The player spent two seasons with the French club, where he made fifty five appearances and scored seventeen goals. Ronaldinho was constantly being pressured to join some of the biggest clubs in the world, and he did just that when he signed for Spanish giants Barcelona in 2003 for twenty one million pounds, even though there were clubs such as Manchester United racing for the talented player’s signature. Since he joined Barcelona, Ronaldinho has played over two hundred games for the club, as well as scoring ninety two goals.

Currently, Ronaldinho is still signed for the Spanish club, but there is a lot of speculation that he no longer wants to play for the club after a supposed fall out with the manager. There have, surprisingly, not been many clubs racing after the Brazilian’s signature, with critics saying that he has lost his flair, and that he looks a shadow of his former self. Manchester City, however, have been very keen to buy Ronaldinho, saying that they could get him back up to his best, and in doing so have offered the twenty eight year old a record breaking wage of two hundred thousand pounds per week, but the Brazilian has declined the offer. Ronaldinho, however, is almost certain to move clubs, and there are top clubs interested from several countries.

Ronaldinho’s brother and agent Assis de Moreira has went on record saying a deal with AC Milan is “close to completion”, though the Manchester City boardroom are still hopeful a last minute deal can be done to bring the Brazilian sensation to the North of England.

Ronaldinho has had a poor season with Barcelona, being hampered by several injuries. It is widely believed he feels a move away from Spain will be beneficial to his career at this point. He has also been linked with a big money switch to Chelsea, but with them closing in on Robinho this is now looking unlikely.

Mark Hughes said:

“He is a world star and if these things are going to happen they are likely to take a bit of time and we are patient.”

Ronaldinho was World Player of The Year in both 2004 and 2005. In 2005 he scored an amazing 960 points, with 2nd place Frank Lampard a mile behind on 429 points. In that time period, live football was a joy to watch with Ronaldinho gracing the pitch.

If Ronaldinho can return to even a fraction of the player he was in 2004-2005 he would revitalise the Manchester City team and hopefully put them in contention for a European place.
