First of all I would like to apologise for the lack of posts these past couple of days. The reason for this is because I have come down with a bad case of influenza and had to rest to overcome the illness. As I write this post I still am not 100%, I feel like a dead man, but because I like posting for you guys, here I am :)

Moving on, what I wanted to talk about today is what part schooling has to do with football and how you can manage both. I grew up with the ideal that school was much more important than anything else and that chasing after dreams I had was foolish. Unfortunately my parents didn’t know any better and decided to pass it onto me, so it’s not entirely their fault, however, this kind of thinking has stopped with me.

What Is More Important, School or Football?

It’s the case of both being important. I like many others share the dream of becoming great players like Ronaldinho, however, it is up to us to see the aspirations for that dream through to the end, how tough that may be. Just the other day, I was talking about chasing after your dreams and that it’s not easy. On the other hand, we have schooling. This will see us go on to college and university. This then leads to a career that you may be fond of, but I never heard of 9-5 jobs being the stuff of dreams.

What About University or College?

You learn a lot in both. I personally attend university and I honestly don’t like it. That’s just the way it is. I’ve learnt a lot from it, but it will never be of use to me in the long run, if all that my heart wants to do is play football. That is why, when you want to do something all the time, feed it and it will grow into something huge. There would be at least a few of you who read this blog and attend university. My message to you and other people who are schooling is, don’t let your dreams die. I nearly did and if I didn’t pick up my act this year to get back into form, all would have been lost and those dreams I’ve had since a boy, wouldn’t be fulfilled (it’s not like they have at the moment, but here’s to hoping).

Why Undertake An Education?

I undertook it purely for safety purposes, just in case my football aspirations don’t work out. Lets say, God forbid, I get injured really badly that prevents me from playing football for the rest of my life. If I’ve gone into football without any kind of backup plan, then I’m toast. So if I do get stuffed on the football pitch, I don’t get stuffed when looking for a job. Simple. Plus it can be easily managed. You can set aside adequate amounts of time for training and working on your game, while organising time for your studies. Sometimes you’ll need to sacrifice things here and there, however, it’ll all be worth it in the end for that peace of mind you get.

One of the readers of this blog has already commented about the goal he scored the other day and that got me thinking about the goal that I scored on the weekend :D It definitely wasn’t as spectacular as his goal but many people commended me for the way I handled the situation to put my side ahead. It was surprisingly very similar to Wayne Rooney’s goal, which he scored against AC Milan in the 1st Leg of the deciding UEFA Champions League Semi-Final. That was one big mouthful wasn’t it? Moving on, you can find the video below of the great goal Rooney scored.

Now what makes Rooney’s goal so masterful is the fact that he hit the ball first time and the goal keeper Dida, was caught napping on the goal line. As a result, he didn’t see this strike coming. The power and speed of this move topped off the great work built up by Ryan Giggs. Keep in mind my team mate didn’t pass the ball to me in the same fashion, but the finishing was pretty much the same, but I think Rooney’s goal was probably better looking than mine. Well I know first hand that it’s hard to beat the best in what they’re so good at doing :)

Ronaldinho scored Barcelona’s goal at the beginning of the match, in the 5th minute and did I mention that the equaliser that came for Real Betis was in the 89th minute? So they both came at opposite ends of the Richter scale :) With this disappointing draw, Barca remain at the top of La Liga only via goal difference. It was definitely a case of losing concentration at the wrong time as Sobis from Real Betis took advantage of a quick start to a free kick they were given in the 89th minute.

Ronaldinho’s Goal and Barcelona’s Fate

As I talked about earlier, the goal came about in 5 minutes when Deco capitalised on a run made into the box. Real Madrid are following close by in second place on the La Liga table and Barcelona need to desperately win their next game against Athletico Madrid which is going to be tough match for them away from the Camp Nou. Now it’s time to enjoy Ronaldinho’s spot kick :D
