What a great and hard fought win by Barca! With the goals of Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto’o, Barca secured their top spot in the Spanish Primera Liga, a couple of points shy of Sevilla. When I say hard fought, I mean it, because it took them 45 minutes to break down the Deportivo defence. Our man Ronaldinho did that, using pure class to flick the ball past his defender and then to send the ball to the Argentinian, Lionel Messi for the two-touch finish. Therefore, at half-time our team was on top 1-0 and spirits were high but also cautious.

The second half brought with it two more goals for either side and an even better display of skill from Ronaldinho. It was hard for Deportivo to come back after the 50th minute of play when Ronaldinho combined with Xavi and Messi to run down the left hand side of the field taking on defenders in his wake and to finally finish off by finding Eto’o, who scored to put Barca up by another goal.

You would think the match was over for Deportivo, but no, they were resilient in their efforts and in the 69th minute it payed off for them. With lazy defending on Barcas behalf, Adrian Lopez raced through to net home a goal for his side. But it was the classic case of holding out for the win. Deportivo still had plenty of fight in them and they could have drawn the match a few times, but lucky for us, they couldn’t and Barca walked away with the win. Mind you, Ronaldinho and Eto’o had their own moment when they nearly scored with a superb back-heel from Ronaldinho to his team mate, but to be denied by the Deportivo goalkeeper, Dudu Aouate. This, as stated earlier puts Barca on top of the leader board with 56 points. The next scheduled match for Barca will be against Zaragoza on the 7th and we will be watching.
